Clean House!

I have, for the past week, been de-cluttering my house (much to my daughters chagrin...)(it makes for a dull summer for her to sit by and play fetch for me...). Anyhow I cannot imagine where the dickens I have been keeping "stuff". I pulled out nearly an entire household out of my closets! How have I survived with such a clutter? No wonder my head was all jumbly.

Finally, I had the stuff moved out of my house and just spent the last couple of hours tidying up before the cleaning lady comes by tomorrow. There is still more that can be done but I am content to do that at a leisurely pace. I happen to be a neat freak and I just hit my high.....

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............................ BLISS!

:P

I don't just want to throw the household out the closet- i want to throw the goddamn closets out the house! Heck I want to throw away the house.

Maybe, just maybe it'll help.

Cleaned up my place as well this weekend; had some extra time so really got things organized. Now, if only someone would drop by and admire my work. :D

Actually, the British were the ones who came up with the whole idea of the servant culture. The only reason they don't do that any more because the empire is no more. However, we seem to have adopted it so well that we still have not been able to get rid of it.

Plus, cooking and cleaning keeps me honest :D.

@ Mouse

I disagree there mouse, you see the british were not the ones who came up with that idea. It existed in the subcontinent prior to that due to the cast system.....

Of course the feudal and serf system present in early monarchial societies, England notwithstanding, did enjoy domestic servants as certain chores were below the dignity of lords and ladies to perform- as did the military culture (officers orderly aka batman).....

On a diffrent note, I am much impressed to see a desi man who cooks and cleans! WOW!!!!

Well, servants exist in every society. But what I meant was that in Pakistan, unfortunately, most people see having servants as a status symbol.

Subcontinental Muslims certainly did have servants before the British came, but the relationship between the employer and the employee seems to have been a more respectful one. This whole nonsense of having exclusive spaces, talking down, etc etc seems to have been brought by the British. That does not mean that this is how British society itself operates or did operate at some point; after all, the British were major players in the world slave trade but never introduced it in their own country.

As far as domestic chores are concerned, for me the choice was simple: either learn how to cook or have to eat Subway's tuna every single day. I used to be pretty bad at it, but am proud to say that I've improved enough to get requests from fellow hungry graduate students :D.

I actually enjoy cooking most of the time. Also, a sizable minority of Pakistani men cook and clean, at least the ones from Sindh do...other provinces might be behind the times :D.

Well...I actually love to clean, and prefer everything neat, clean and in its place. However I've always managed some really interesting closets. Digging into it and cleaning it, is like going shopping for new clothes. You find stuff you haven't seen for ages, and it's like new clothes all over again.

But I do agree with Sista's sentiments though! :) Now all we need to do is to start thinking about how to throw out the house.

I hate decluttering !!

Whenever i try doing that, every other thing i get, seems to remind me of a history of mine associated with that.Even simple old newspapers suddenly get all important and dear.

I still have the question papers of my
3rd grade examination, the pencil i bought in my 5th grade ( it had a scent, never seen another one like it),my first broken yoyo !

"Stuff": toys, clothes, shoes, things that I no longer use, need, like or just plain cannot stand the sight of anymore (as in they were there when my ex and I were together and they need to GO!)

lol.... you know, stuff (and fluff)

@mohican

I love a clean house and everything in its place... but that for me means organizing- not cleaning.... that I leave to the cleaning woman.

I only do maintenance work in between her visits ;)

i am like that (i used to be much worse) but i have steeled my heart and thrown stuff away without any remorse (okay maybe a little) but the packrat syndrome needs to be done with.
