HISTORY

I am proud today...

To be where I am and who I am. I FEEL proud today to BE American. Today I told my child... it is all possible, it can all happen. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave... and today a brave man steps into office in a free nation... with a landslide victory that speaks to the growth a nation has made...

Yes there are still flaws... and factions that would dispute...BUT... there is no other nation on earth that takes care of it's own the way America does... a nation- that even though it falters, never fails to stand up and make right, that which it did wrong.... a country in which dreams do come true and in which today, I saw the beginning of a change that is historic.

Today America begins washing off the stain of RACISM...
A Black man is the president elect...
He had my vote...

And he is in office today because many more than just black people voted for him... people voted for him because he represents the change that is needed, desperately needed, to make America proud again.

Today I am a proud American...

I am safe at home tonight, after a deliriously happy day of rejoicing... with friends and co workers who joined me in fellowship and recognition that today, history was made and I was a part of it!

I'm envious but in a good way. I wish I could vote in this country. Kudos to you and everyone who voted.

Yeah, thats the best thing about this country. As long as you are an American here, you can be anything or do anything. If you are a foreigner here, you are just a commodity.

i agree.
Martin Luther King's thought "I Have a Dream" finally materializes.
It is indeed a very historic day today

Racism may be shedding away in the US, but it is still an IN THING in Africa, especially propagated by some European Nations. Lets see when the world wud finally be free of Racism.
and That's what Prophet muhammad (p.b.u.h) said in his Last Sermon

This is really a remarkable incident. People all across the globe have rejoiced over, what they believe, is triumph of oppressed against oppressive; hope against pessimism; and above all, change against status quo. American public has given its leaders a tremendous opportunity to transform America's image in the world. We hope CHANGE is not just a catchy slogan to win ballots, but an ideology to stand for forsaken and downtrodden.

I agree... History has been made!

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream... Many a million people had that same dream as his. His dream was not that a black man be equally treated to a white man; his dream was that every man be equally treated. And today America stands at the door of 'Liberty', to which it has laid claim for many many years... I hope the same spirit of liberty flows into all the world and let men be free as they were created! Its just the beginning... There's a long long way to go!

Who knows the 'next' President of the U.S. of America would be you Shahnaz??? :-D

[SHAHNAZ FOR PRESIDENT!!! sounds cool... ;-)]

Well, sounds funny, but quite frankly, thinking about Obama as the President of U.S. of America was a joke some years back...

But as the famous soundtrack of the epic Gladiator titles, "Now We Are Free"... That has come to pass, and now we ARE free!

God Bless America!

It really is a momentous victory, awe-inspiring in its splendor. I've to hand it off to McCain, who was extremely gracious in his concession speech, and Obama, who was sincere and humble in his acceptance speech. It was an emotional day for many, especially immigrants of all backgrounds. Yes, our first generation of immigrants can't be the POTUS, but our kids definitely have that potential. Now that a "common man" has achieved it, it's not so unfathomable for the rest who strive.

I doubt so and anyway Shahnaz (proud American)Dont you see what your nation has been doing to poor nations like Iraq, Afghan and Pakistan. By the way, any American President no matter Barak, Bush, Clinton have and will always try to exercise Godly qualities.
Let me tell you another thing; If you think by living there for ten years and practicing their ritual including the Haloween, Christmas, Easter, you will gain their sympathies and in your words, their good will.

more later; I dont have enough time right now ..

There is much to be learnt from the success of this country. The values of innovation, open mindedness, fairness, equal opportunity, and honesty along with hard work are at the core of every successful enterprise here. As Obama has rightly said, in no other country can his story be possible. It is sad that the potential of our talented nation Pakistan has been contrained by a universal discouragement of these values at every level.

As for the "anonymous"...if you were living in the U.S. for 10 years, would you denounce the American holidays? Would you go out and publicly protest against practicing Halloween and Christmas in the United States? Would you speak against a country that has given you citizenship, employment, residence and opportunities?

By celebrating those "rituals" and exercising her right to vote for the man she thinks will run the country better, Shahnaz is not doing anything wrong and I don't think she is trying to win any sympathies and good will.

You have to be open minded. You have to give the new President a chance. People like you are the very reason why they went into Iraq and Afghanistan.

I am not defending the American Presidents and their actions, but you are attacking someone for being an American. Grow a pair, tell us who you are and where are you from, let us attack you for being a citizen of that country and we will see how you feel about that. If you are not patriotic, you won't give a damn. If you are, you will exactly know how it feels. It will be a lose-lose for you , unless you can help it.
