Zay poaygama chatu sa vay......

Translation from Pashto to English...
I can understand what you are saying!!

That was the first sentence I learned in Pashto!! My dad laughed when I asked him to teach me that.... You see it is the only one I ever need to know!

Pathans are VERY proud people and we speak our language with blatant aplomb! We also believe we are so cool! So whenever you see Pathans speaking Pashto we are thinking we are so cool, we love our language, and we are proud of who and what we are...!

So I actually perfected this one sentence to the max and every time I would be sitting close to a bunch of Pathans speaking Pashto, being cool, thinking no one could understand what they were saying.... I would after a while get up, walk upto them and very slyly state "Zay paoygama....." The reaction was instantaneous satisfaction. Their faces would pale and they would go really quiet. And I would walk away like the cool kitten I was... which is when they would break into chatter and call me back and try to explain themselves.... lol.... I would at that time confess and have a good laugh and we'd be okay. They'd ask if I was pathan. I'd say yes and VOILA!! That was it. Pathans are also very cohesive. We gel with our kind like magnets!

But that brief moment between my uttering the fatal words and the registering that their "private" conversation had been heard and understood... were just awesome!!!

MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I know I am wicked!
I am a saucy devil!
And I love it!!!

Chalo kha de cha pa ta sa kho poayagay....

This reminds me one of my friends who hails from Punjab but has the desire to learn Pushto from me.
I taught him, "singa chal de" --- Kia haal hain, that proved to be his first and last well-learnt Pushto sentence.
After 5 years of this lesson, my friend still used his pushto weapon while talking to pathans.
Faisal Jaan singa Chal, singa chal!!!!!

Yeah thats true that the Pathans are very cohesive, but who ain't cohesive. The communities are largely based on similar language and culture.

well...whenever i see pathan n u know its not really that difficult to pick out a pathan as they have very diferent facial structure as compared to others ... more like a rigid face n more whiteness glitterin out :p the only thing i say is .."LAAKA!!!ZA PUKHTOYEGAY?!??!"
"DUDE! r u pathan?!?!" :-D ...this for most of the time ends up with the PATHAN MAN talkin non-stop in pushto as he then ASSUMES that m understandin each n evrythin ;-D .... n then i HAVE to interrupt in the ONE SIDED CONVERSATIOn n have to let'em know that i can hardly speak pushto n all :) and then all i see is pathan sayin...
"OOH! phir seekho na yaar hamaari zabaan, kitna meetha zabaan hai dekha :-D "
which i for surely do agree ;-D !!!
(cant help it.. m a pathan so i LUV this language :) ) !!!

WELLL .... ANOTHER LINE THAT I USE VERY FREQUENTLY WHEN I SEE 2 PATHANS TALKING IS ....
"LAAKA! NASWAR ISHTAY?!?!"
WICH BASICALLY MEANS
"BRO! NASWAAR HAI KYA ?!?!"
NASWAR = DUNNO WAT THAT IS BUT WORKS AS SUM KINDA A WORK ENHANCEMENT HERB OR SUMTHIN AND SMELLS REALLY SPUNGY FOR SURE :-S
...
but the bottom line is .. the MOMENT u ask them about NASWAR they just simply KNOW that you KNOW WAT U R ASKIN FOR thoug u have clue wat that THINGy is all like :p .... and all i get in response is a giggle n most of the tiem they say
NASWAR NISHTA MARA
(meaning... sorry bro aint got no naswar :) ) but got the idea that i can speak pushto too :-D !!!!

This reminds me of good ol' university days. There was a foreigners' hostel where most of the students were Afghanis. Once an African asked his Afghani friend to teach him to say something nice in Pushto. Mischievous Afghani instead taught him a really nasty sentence. Next day poor African gleefully greeted a bunch of Afghanis in the campus with that sentence. Before the poor chap could realize what he had just done, an Afghani came up to him, grabbed him by collar and punched straight in the face.

I just know this one sentence:
Ista zaman tolona kha margaray ya..

It means..You're my bestfriend =D
My bestfriend in grade 4 or 5 taught me that =D

lol... :P The devil you are Shahnaz! The wicked Devil!!! ;)
"Za poay gama che tu sa vay" is like "I know what you did last summer" to the pale faced victims who knew you could understand all what they said :P

well when i was in school, in 5th class, i thought that i knew enough Persian...so i wanted to show that gal that i knew her language...BUT behold dear readers, my intention was pure and NOT Wicked when i wanted to say to her that "Go away", in Persian. i thought the translation was "Bhokhu"...So, i told her: "Go(english)" "Bhokhu(Persian)", "Go Bokho"...
You know what? :-S she was mad at me and pata nai kya kya bol gayi :(
when i told my persian speaking frnd that i only said that "Go bokhu" means go away....she started laughing like anything...

Actually, i learnt later on that in Persian "Bokho" means "Eat" and.....................................and "Go" means "Shit" :(
!!!!!!!!!!
